QUEEN’S PARK – After deliberately deleting and stealing documents to protect their political party, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals need to start cooperating with the OPP investigation and start being truthful with Ontario taxpayers, said PC MPPs Vic Fedeli and Rob Leone.

“Premier Kathleen Wynne has a responsibility to serve the people of Ontario. She needs to order former Liberal staffers to turn over all stolen property in their possession to the police for their investigation,” said Fedeli. “Failure to co-operate with the Legislature and OPP will demonstrate that Premier Wynne is only focused on protecting her own political power instead of being honest with taxpayers.”

Fedeli noted that five senior staffers in the McGuinty-Wynne government are tied to this scandal which is now being investigated by the OPP’s Anti-Rackets Branch.

“The fact remains, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals’ decision to destroy government documents was made to keep Ontario taxpayers in the dark about the true cost to cancel the Mississauga and Oakville gas plants,”  added Leone. “What is in the documents and what is Premier Wynne trying to hide by refusing to order staffers to return the stolen USBs?”

This is a very simple concept – start being truthful with Ontario taxpayers. Premier Wynne doesn’t have to keep participating in her government’s orchestrated cover-up, continued Leone.

“It is clear that the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals are hiding something in the stolen emails,” concluded Fedeli. “Taxpayers deserve to know how much they are being billed to save Liberal seats in the last election. It is time for Premier Wynne to demand that the stolen documents and USB drives are turned over to the police.”
