If you’re wondering why the stretch of highway between Woodstock and Cambridge has yielded unusually poor driving conditions, you’re not alone. MPP Rob Leone is seeking answers from the provincial government as to why accidents and closures have become the norm, and whether the province is maintaining the highway properly.

“Over the past couple of months, this stretch of highway has become increasingly perilous for drivers,” said Leone in a letter addressed to the Minister of Transportation, the Hon. Glen Murray Wednesday.

“Although this winter season has presented us with some of the most treacherous driving conditions we have seen for some time, there is no excuse for failing to provide our citizens with the safe passage they need to conduct their daily affairs.”

The highway has been closed several times over the course of the past two months, but the greater concern to Leone has been what he feels is improper upkeep. He credited the government for the safe stretch of highway been Milton and Cambridge in recent years and wonders why that same record cannot be achieved west of the riding.

“It is the job of the government to ensure there are proper services in place to mitigate the danger caused by snow and ice,” concluded Leone. “My constituents are not satisfied that this is happening.”
