QUEEN’S PARK – Kathleen Wynne must ask the Auditor General to immediately release the report into the Oakvillegas plant scandal, Nipissing PC MPP Vic Fedeli and Cambridge PC MPP Rob Leone said today.

“The extent of this $600-million gas plant cover-up has shocked and appalled Ontarians, and led to a criminal investigation.” said Fedeli. “Now, we are asking Kathleen Wynne to request that the Auditor General release the latest report, which would shed new light on this scandal.”

Last week, Ontario’s Information and Privacy Commissioner said she was “appalled” at having been “misled” by Kathleen Wynne’s Liberals, when new gas plant documents were brought to light. Now, the Liberals likely have an Auditor General’s report that will cast light on this politically-motivated waste of taxpayer dollars. On behalf of all Ontarians, Fedeli and Leone are calling on the Premier to ask the Auditor General to release the report immediately.

“We believe that Kathleen Wynne may have possession of the Auditor General’s report, which would shed new light on this scandal. Kathleen Wynne knows how much these cancellations cost, but she is hiding it so that the public cannot see the true depths of this expensive scandal,” stated Fedeli.

Premier Wynne is the only person able to call byelections, and she chose a rare summer date before a long weekend to avoid the Auditor’s report, which means she continues to directly cover-up the scandal and hide the truth from Ontarians, added Leone.

“Premier Wynne continues to talk about her openness and transparency, but the only thing transparent here is her attempt to withhold the truth from Ontarians, particularly those in the five byelections,” Leone stated.  She should do the honourable thing and release the true costs of the gas plant cancellations and fully explain why her party continues to put Liberal Party interests ahead of the priorities of Ontarians.”
