“It is truly troubling and hard to believe, quite frankly, that there is any reasonable explanation for the fact that the Minister of Energy’s office could produce absolutely no records in response to the Speaker’s ruling. The same comment applies to the former Premier’s office having so few records that were responsive to two freedom of information requests touching on these decisions.”

QUEEN’S PARK – Today’s report from the Ontario Privacy Commissioner confirms that McGuinty-Wynne Liberals intentionally deleted emails relating to their gas plant scandal to avoid political backlash, PC MPP Rob Leone said.

“The Privacy Commissioner confirmed what we have been saying all along – the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals will do whatever it takes to avoid being held accountable for the $1 billion they wasted to save Liberal seats,” said Leone. “It is reprehensible that the Premier’s office purposely deleted emails to avoid the truth from being exposed about their involvement in the gas plant scandals.

“With the current Premier requiring her staff use Gmail accounts about the gas plant scandal and the old Premier forcing his staff to delete all related emails – it is clear that Kathleen Wynne is no different than Dalton McGuinty.”

Leone’s comments follow the Special Report from Ontario’s Privacy Commissioner which states that the Premier’s Office approached the Secretary of Cabinet looking to permanently delete emails. “This is just the latest example of the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals ordering a cover-up to protect their political power.”

“Taxpayers deserve truth. Unfortunately, the McGuinty-Wynne Liberals are so arrogant that they don’t believe that they need to be open and honest with Ontario taxpayers,” continued Leone.

“The only way we are going to get to the bottom of this scandal is a judicial inquiry,” concluded Leone. “And the only way to a judicial inquiry is to change the team that leads the province.”
