CAMBRIDGE – “Families need confidence in our energy system, not a Liberal government that is more interested in playing postal code politics,” said Cambridge PC MPP Rob Leone.

The Ontario PC Caucus will introduce a motion to strike a Committee aimed at studying the province’s emergency preparedness and at developing a protocol for quicker responses in the future.

The member from Cambridge was also critical of the Premier’s ‘Toronto First’ approach during the recent ice storm that crippled many parts of the province. The city of Cambridge, North Dumfries Township and municipalities outside of Toronto were largely ignored and were literally left in the dark.

“This blackout is not just a Toronto issue; it is a province-wide issue. While the Premier hands out gift cards and food baskets to residents of Toronto, Kathleen Wynne was nowhere to be seen in our local area.  It shows she was more concerned about a quick photo op with Toronto media than expressing care and concern for people across the province.”

Despite assurances that the province did in fact reach out to affected communities, Leone said that no contact was made between the province and Cambridge city officials, even though the local municipality is responsible for hydro distribution through Cambridge-North Dumfries Hydro.

“It is time for the Wynne Liberals to stop putting their political interests ahead of Ontarians’ interests. Ontario deserves leadership on the energy file and if the Liberal government is not willing to do that, a PC government will,” said Leone.
