I was saddened today to learn of the passing of Kayla Baker, 15, of Cambridge. Kayla was a kind young woman whose courage and selflessness helped touch the lives of thousands of strangers and raise awareness for a cause too easily forgotten.

Through the Green Ribbon Campaign, Kayla ensured that organ donation was front and centre in the hearts and minds of people all across the province. She embodied every quality we could possibly ask for in a Cambridge resident: caring and compassionate, vocal and resilient, positive and hopeful. Her battle serves as a reminder of how fortunate we are, how easily affected our loved ones can be and should inspire us all to give the gift of life.

I offer my most sincere condolences to her family, friends and loved ones and encourage Cambridge residents and Ontarians alike to support her cause and keep up the fight for organ donation in her memory.
